Macon Giants Take GSL Crown

Franklin Springs, GA.

 

The Macon Giants took a 10-5 victory over the Ty Cobb Reds in the rubber game in the GSL Championship Series to claim their first GSL Championship. Ty Cobb had forced a 7th and deciding game by winning game six in dramatic fashion. Ty Cobb's Clay Gibson hit a 3 run homer to seal the victory for the Reds.

In the deciding game, the teams fought so evenly that they were tied at the end of regulation 5-5 with identical lines: 5 Runs on 7 HIts and 3 errors. Each team threatened in the first extra inning but  the score remained  tied. Macon expolded in the next extra inning pushing across 5 runs to claim the title. 

The Tournament saw the #3 and #4 seeds battle for the GSL Champship. The #2 seed, Tennessee Styx, lost to Macon is Game 1 and lost to Ty Cobb in Game 2. The #1 Seed Athens Pirates won their first game versus Ty Cobb but lost a slugfeast versus Macon 13-10 in a 4 hour game. The Pirates then lost to Ty Cobb to set up the Reds/Giants Final.
